New year, new campaign!
Each year, we run campaigns to educate the public about residential recycling and what can go into the blue bin. This year is no different. We want Manitobans to educate themselves about recycling with our new campaign – Fact or Fiction!
The campaign will focus on the confusion that is often associated with recycling. With all the misinformation about recycling and the environment out there, we want to separate fact from fiction. Here are some tips to help:
- Get your information from local, credible sources. A lot of what you hear about what happens to our recycling doesn’t necessarily apply to Manitoba, as we are centrally located. Where our recycling goes is dependent on market conditions and can change daily. Most of Manitoba’s recycling is shipped to plants in Ontario and the US.
- Stay informed on the rules of recycling. These rules can also change depending on market conditions. The best thing you can do as a consumer is to refresh yourself on these rules from time to time. If you ever need a reminder, click here for hints that will come in handy.
- Go back to basics and practice the 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle – in your everyday life. Remember that reducing what you buy and reusing items you already own is better for the environment in the long run.
We want residents to be confident in knowing what they can put into their blue bins by checking the Recyclepedia. With over 7,000 downloads and counting, it’s easy to get the facts by checking the Recyclepedia. It’s also available in 13 different languages and is updated frequently.
